Spice cake
Warm fall spices in a rich buttermilk cake
Ingredients
- 1 cups brown sugar
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 0.5 cup vegetable oil
- 5 large eggs, separated
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp nutmeg
- 0.25 tsp cloves
- 0.25 tsp allspice
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Whisk dry ingredients together
- Add wet ingredients and stir to combine
- Bake for 25 min in two greased 9 inch cake pans at 350°F.
Notes
- Doesn’t halve neatly due to the eggs, but makes a fabulous layer cake with a basic buttercream icing.
