Baked donuts

Baked donuts

Simple donuts that come together in under an hour, made from scratch and baked. 🍩

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp (35 g) brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.75 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of baking soda
  • 0.25 to 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg, to taste
  • 0.75 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.33 cups (160 g) all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup milk

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease one donut pan.
  2. Beat the butter, oil, and sugars until smooth.
  3. Add the egg, beat to combine.
  4. Stir in the baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla.
  5. Stir in the flour and milk in small pours, mixing until smooth.
  6. Spoon batter into the donut pan, filling each well a little short of full.
  7. Bake 12-14 minutes, then allow to rest for 10 before removing from the pan.
  8. Cool and ice as you’d like.

Notes

  • Adapted from King Arthur Baking Company’s Baked Donuts - half the recipe and adjust time for what’s working at my altitude.
  • Yields about 6 to 8 donuts, depending on the size of the pan.
  • I usually do a simple chocolate ganache or simple maple cream for icing.
