Rice pilaf
Simple rice pilaf is an easy side dish
Ingredients
- 3 cups double strength chicken stock
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 0.25 cup orzo
- 0.25 cup minced fresh onion
- 1.5 tsp minced garlic
- 0.25 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tsp ground savory
Directions
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium low heat. Add the orzo and toast until the orzo is a nice auburn and the butter has browned. Remove orzo from the pan and set aside.
- Add minced onion and saute until translucent. Add garlic and continue to saute for about another 30 seconds.
- Add stock to the pan slowly, scraping up the fond. Then finish adding stock, rice, and seasonings.
- Bring to boil, then cover and cook on low for 15 minutes.
- Add orzo, then cover and cook until done, about another 10 minutes.
Notes
- Tons of veggies go great stirred in. Peas, tiny carrot bits, basically anything crunchy.
- Same for lentils.
- Also for chopped nuts.
